I'm using C89 and wanting to declare the names of ships. I want something like: Nameship[i][q]

Where 'i' is the ship number and 'q' is the number of letters in the name of the ship.

this is what i'm thinking:

int q = 20;

char* Nameship[q] = (char*)malloc(sizeof(char)*num_ships);

/* Where num_ships is a positive integer */

What should i do?

int q = 20;

char* Nameship = (char*) malloc ( num_ships * q * sizeof(char) );

Here, per Nameship will be given a string size of q, i.e, 20
