Use ¾ inch diameter, A325-N bolts. A992 Grade 50 steel will be used for all the plates. The total factored load to be carried by the splice is 50 kips. Make suitable assumptions, if required (a) Determine the minimum width of the plate based on the required tensile strength of 50 kips. (b) How many bolts will be required to carry the factored load? For symmetry, use only even number of bolts. (c) Check that all the detailing requirements are satisfied (d) Show a neat scaled drawing (preferably AutoCAD) of the plan view and elevation with all the dimensions and details. Fig. 2
