Which of the following is NOT a true statement?

A. Like the z distribution, the t distribution is bell shaped, symmetrical, and centers around 0.

B. The t distribution is flatter and has fatter tails than the z distribution, which makes it more appropriate for the greater sample-to-sample variability in small samples

C. Like the z distribution, there is only one t distribution.

D. With sample sizes of 120 or more, the t distribution becomes virtually identical to the z distribution

E. All of these statements about the t distribution are true

Answer #1

C. Like the z distribution, there is only one t distribution.

this is statement is incorrect because shape of t distribution depends on degrees of freedom. so for corresponding degrees of freedom shape of t distribution will be different.

11 a) True or False:  The t distribution has a greater standard deviation than the standard normal z distribution. Can you explain or prove why this is True?   I have a hunch it has something to do with the sample sizes vs the population but I'm really not sure & I really like to be able to explain why things are true or false for questions like this. Thanks!

Respond True or False to each of these statements. The total area under the normal distribution is equal to 1. As the sample size increases, the distribution of the sample statistics becomes more consistent. Sampling variability refer to a variability of parameters. A sampling distribution describes a distribution of sample statistics. All variables that are approximately normally distributed can be transformed to standard z-scores. The z-value corresponding to a datum below the mean is always negative. The area under the...

Is the following statement true or false? The t distribution has more probability in the tails than the N(0, 1) distribution because the fixed parameter σ has been replaced by the random variable s. This statement is true. This statement is false because σ is a variable, not s. This statement is false because the t distribution puts less probability in the tails than the N(0, 1) distribution does. This statement is false because σ and s are both fixed...
