You are pulling a 6.8 kg box with rope with a force of 5.5 N. The rope is 35° above thehorizontal. For a while you are pulling across ice that is very smooth. Later you reach a patch of snow which has a kinetic coefficient of friction of 0.2 and a static coefficient of friction of 0.35 with the box.

A)Draw the free body diagrams for the box when it is on the ice and when it is on the snow. Write the Newton’s 2nd law equations for both diagrams.

B)What is the normal force on the box when it is on the ice?

C)If the box starts from rest on the ice, what is the acceleration on the ice?

D)What is the acceleration of the box when it is being pulled on the snow?

E)If you stop to rest while walking through the snow, what force do you need to get the box moving again. Assume you are applying a horizontal force to the rope.
