Tensions can be used to free people from social exclusion. Cities, being the centers of economic activities, attract people from all diversity. People have different views on religion, sex, politics, etc. Smaller groups of people who hold different views, usually the minority may feel threatened because of their beliefs or practices. Sometimes, these people need to create awareness about their practices. Encouraging such kind of demonstrations helps to build democratic citizenship. The tension built during demonstrations brings out positive influence among the people. The minority becomes accepted by society hence creating peaceful coexistence among all people.
Strict regulations and discipline restrict these demonstrations. They cause the tension to build up to a point of rebellion. People who hold different views do not speak out for fear of being judged or isolated. This further deepens social exclusion in the cities.
