Within a Ballon there are 3 types of gases. The first gas is 6 moles in amount, the 2nd is 4 moles, and the last is 3.5 moles. If a total pressure of 10atm was felt by the Ballon and I labeled the 1st 2nd and 3rd X, Y, Z, what is the partial pressure of each gas.

total moles = moles of X + moles of Y + moles of Z

so

total moles = 6 + 4 + 3.5

total moles = 13.5

now

mole fraction of X = moles of X / total moles

mole fraction of X = 6 / 13.5 = 0.4444

mole fraction of Y = moles of Y / total moles

mole fraction of Y = 4 / 13.5 = 0.296

mole fraction of Z = moles of Z / total moles

mole fraction of Z = 3.5 / 13.5 = 0.259


now

given total pressure = 10 atm


now

partial pressure of X = mole fraction of X * total pressure

= 0.4444 x 10

partial pressure of X = 4.444 atm

partial pressure of Y = mole fraction of Y * total pressure

= 0.296 x 10

partial pressure of Y = 2.96 atm


partial pressure of Z = 0.259 * 10

partial pressure of Z = 2.59 atm
