Answer #1

According to me,"The fact that some airplanes collide is evidence that there is too little air traffic control" is a false statement. Airplanes collision can be controlled by adopting safety control measures. If we see the reasons behind airplanes collison then there are always combination of various factors. The occurence of mid-air collusion is very less because the air traffic control is good. Most of the collission cases occur near airports where many airplanes are spaced more closely. If the better safety control measures are provided, then these measures will be opportunity costs in term of economics. These opportunity costs can prevent airplanes by collison.

An air traffic controller spots two airplanes at the same altitude converging to a point as they fly at right angles to each other. One airplane is 70 miles from the point and has a speed of 140 miles per hour. The other is 240 miles from the point and has a speed of 480 miles per hour. (a) At what rate is the distance between the planes changing? mph (b) How much time does the controller have to get...

Air traffic controllers have the crucial task of ensuring that aircraft don't collide. To do this, they must quickly discern when two planes are about to enter the same air space at the same time. They are aided by video display panels that track the aircraft in their sector and alert the controller when two flight paths are about to converge. The display panel currently in use has a mean "alert time" of 15 seconds. (The alert time is the...

Some commercial airplanes recirculate approximately 50% of the cabin air in order to increase fuel efficiency. The researchers studied 1098 airline passengers, among which some traveled on airplanes that recirculated air and others traveled on planes that did not recirculate air. Of the 517 passengers who flew on planes that did not recirculate air, 106 reported post-flight respiratory symptoms, while 112 of the 581 passengers on planes that did recirculate air reported such symptoms. Is there sufficient evidence to conclude...

For the time being, the air traffic control system in the United States is run by the federal government. Some people would like to change this, arguing that the air traffic control system should be part of the private sector. Among the arguments given for the privatization of air traffic control is that flight delays are much too common in the United States. A first step in deciding if, indeed, delays in the U.S. are too common might be to...
