How could I secure linux operating system? Describe it or Describe the steps?
1) There are various distributions of linux availabe on the net. Due to inexperience people mostly neglect the best distribution of linux and install the wrong version of the linux os.
before downloading the linux over net search for the best linux distribution in terms of safet and user experience over net
2) install firewall on your system once you have installed your linux os. Now a days most linux os doesn't enable the firewall by default. since firewall are very helpfull when comes to security over the net since it blocks the internet access to insecure sites or the sevices over the net.
3) update your system regularly. Due to secrity reasons, very updates to the system are available now and then and due to unwanted pop ups users disable the update feature from the settings thus the system is not patched with the latest security patches and this lag the security to the system
4) use the power of the root user effectively. some user find annoying the password pop up for getting the system administration and thus always use the root user. so if any softawre maliclilously run on the system with the root access can get the access to the sensitive data of the system . so don't get login on the system with root user, use it when required
5) if you are using the same distribution of linux over time you may have created many user. so have the check of the unwanted or unrequired user created over the system and get rid of them.
6) use groups and permission effectively while creating the users . don't give root permission to every user
7)take the regular backups of your data so that if somethins happens to the system you have your data. since over the net the virus and worms are mostly created for the windows os and not for linux distribtuion but it is better to have the liscensed virus scanner and get it updated regularly.
