The colligative properties are dependent on the amount (number of moles) of matter dissolved in the solution.
1) The molar mass of potassium bromide is lower than that of sucrose , so for gram for gram the number of moles of potassium bromide will be higher than the number of moles of sucrose.
So higher the number of moles of compound (here potassium bromide) lower will be the melting point.
2) Now potassium bromide KBr is an ionic compound , it dissociates into its two ions K+ and Br- ions , so its vant hoff factor is 2 whereas sucrose is a covalent compound with vant hoff factor of 1 (as it does not dissociate in water).
So more the vant hoff factor , lower will be the melting point.
Gram for gram, potassium bromide lowers the melting point of water much more than sucrose ....
Explain, with the help of simple diagrams, why salt in water lowers the melting point of ice, yet raises the boiling point of water; effectively broadening the liquid temperature range
How much of potassium nitrate (in grams) would be needed to lower the melting point of 100 grams of water by 1 degree Celsius? Please show your work! Thank you.
2. Potassium bromide and sulfur dibromide both dissolve in water. Draw a diagram showing how potassium bromide dissolves in water, including at least 4 water molecules (30) b) Describe the main difference between dissolving of potassium bromide in water, and dissolving of sulfur dibromide in water. (20) (21) 3. a) Determine the total and net ionic equations for the reaction below L,CO3(a) + 2 HBr → CO, +1,0, + 2 LiBr) b) Identify the spectator ion(s) in the reaction. (1T)...
how much potassium bromide would you need to dissolve in 100. mL of water to prepare a 35 M solution?
The melting point of potassium is 62.2 oC. Molten potassium has a vapor pressure of 10.00 torr at 433oC and 400 torr at 708 oC. R=8.314 J/(K-mol). How much heat is needed to vaporize 28.5 g of the potassium liquid? What is the heat of vaporization of liquid potassium?
2. Melting Water-Ice. You have 250 grams of water frozen at 0 deg C. How much heat is required to melt the ice, at 0 deg C? (The Heat of Fusion for water is 320 Joules / gram.) 3. Heating Liquid Water. Take the amount of heat from Problem 2 above and calculate the final temperature to which the water will rise.

In the experiment of Periodic Relationships, you observed that potassium reacted more violently with water than sodium and sodium reacted more violently with water than lithium. Explain this reactivity in terms of the electronic structure of the atoms.
