The minimum wattage capacity of the generator depends upon the needs and activities of the residents of the building. But below , we can list some of the basic critical electric circuits and components we need to consider to determine this.
1)Air conditioning- Are they using portable or window unit? Air conditioning is a particularly important thing for people in warmer climates. In general they are 1.5kW-2.5kW. Central AC consumes atleast 5kW , and usually about 8.75kW.
2) Emergency lighting - Typically about 400W. Should be just about enough to serve basic requirements in unforeseen circumstances.

4)Well Pump (600W to 900W)- To provide water supply to the residents of the building.
