Solution:
For X_bar Chart the UCL is = X-bar_bar + A2 * R_bar
R_bar is the mean of ranges of all the 5 levels and A2 is a constant which depends on the sample size.
Hence,
R_bar = (3+2+2+1+2)/5 = 2
A2 = 0.729 (constant for n = 4)
X_bar_bar = ( 6 + 6.25+.7.75+6.5+4.75)/5 = 31.25/5 = 6.25
therefore,
UCL = X-bar_bar + A2 * R_bar = 6.25 + 0.729 * 2 = 6.25 + 1.458 = 7.708

The
Money Pit Mortgage Company is interested in monitoring the
performance of the mortgage process. Fifteen samples of five
completed mortgage transactions each were taken during a period
when the process was believed to be in control. The times to
complete the transactions were measured. The means and ranges of
the mortgage process transaction times, measured in days, are as

The Canine Gourmet Company produces delicious dog treats for canines with discriminating tastes. Management wants the box-filling line to be set so that the process average weight per packet is 47 grams. To make sure that the process is in control, an inspector at the end of the filling line periodically selects a random box of 8 packets and weighs each packet. When the process is in control, the range in the weight of each sample has averaged 7 grams....
