One wants to construct a multiple linear regression model to investigate what factors can lead to higher cholesterol levels, therefore cholesterol levels is the dependent variable. What potential independent variables should be included in the model?

In a multiple regression model, independent variables should be selected such that the effect of the dependent variable or the changes in the response of the dependent variable may be studied due to change in the levels of independent variable. If we consider the cholesterol level as dependent variable, then the independent variables should be the factors that highly affect the cholesterol level. So we could select the following variables as independent variables:

1. BMI (Body Mass Index) which indicates obesity in an individual.

2. Age. (Cholesterol level is associated with age)

3. Blood sugar level.

All these variables are continous variables.
