Has Canada increased exports to the UK over the last 20 years?

a.)

This analysis does not take into consideration USA which has been the top export partner of Canada in the past 20 years.

Towards the start of the 21st century, China and the UK were not as far away in terms of export destinations from Republic of Korea, Netherlands and Germany and Mexico (part of NAFTA). But China and the UK have risen as export partners dramatically in the first decade of the 21st century. All exports dipped in during the GFC and again in 2013-14, but China rose to become the second-largest importer of Canadian goods post-2015, as UK lagged post-2016 due to geopolitical and economic uncertainty over Brexit.

b.)

Yes, the overall interpretation of the graph would conclude that exports to the UK have increased in the past 20 years. Especially towards the end of the financial crises in 2009, after 2009 up to 2011/12 the exports increased exponentially and then decreased dramatically in 2012 to stabilise in the range of $1.3billion area up until the end of 2016 (Brexit results). After 2016 the exports declined.

c. As a result of Brexit was unveiled and the UK was set to leave the EU, there was decline in Canadian exports to the UK, and this was primarily based upon the geopolitical and economic uncertainty of how the negotiations will unravel. A decreased in export to the UK would affect the GDP of Canada negatively as the UK has over the past 20 years become the fourth largest exporting partner of Canda.

d.In the above chart we can see that exports to the EU have risen consistently in the past 20 years. The exports dipped around the time of the great financial crisis but then regained momentum towards the end of 2009 and stabilised around $6 billion 2011 to 2014 and then decreased to again rise towards the end of 2016 as The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
