In London on July 7, 2005, a series of coordinated attacks with
improvised explosives devices (IED) were unleashed against the
public transportation system. Is it morally or ethically defensible
to execute such attacks against civilians? How can law enforcement
best respond to such attacks to prevent further damage and harm to
citizens?
No moral or ethical school of thought can ever held such attacks on uninitiated, unarmed and helpless civilians valid, and no defense can ever be furnished under any theory that applies to life in a civilised world. This ideology of hate originates from medieval savagery and has no place in modern civilisation. Law enforcement can prevent the occurrence of such attacks in future by
(i) Identifying the perpetrators, propagators, and sympathisers of this ideology of hate and destruction by thourogh vigilance system to ensure that such preparations are nipped in the bud itself without causing much damage. Efforts to deal with this entire terror infrastructure must be multipronged, with on ground cleansing, watch over cyber world and co ordination with global agencies fighting with same enemy.
(ii) Making the new age counter- combat operations more efficient because these threat mongers now use sophisticated technologies and internet based platforms to radicalise, mobilise and use the youngsters to fulfill the agenda.
(iii) Making immigration laws more stringent to prevent influx of such elements that can be detrimental for society. Deportation of those found in subversive activities
(iv) Rethink over the revocation of voting rights of immigrants. This is essential to reduce their inclusion in policy formation.
(v) Globally unified effort to counter terrorism by improving communication between different law enforcement agencies and nab the culprits whevever they are.
(vi) Identification of the countries that promote, propagate and abate terrorism and house / facilitate terror actors from their soil. These need to be isolated and sanctioned.
