It can be things that are self-taught by researching or reading, or through things that are experienced. It aims to make us socially and morally aware and be responsive for our actions and thoughts outside the school curriculum and regime. It helps in the over all development of an individual in the world. Sometimes it may also be helpful to learn and control different situations and settings. It will not be wrong to call it a truly lifelong process where individual acquires attitudes, values, skills and knowledge from daily experience and the educative influences and resources in his or her environment - from family and neighbors, from work and play, from the market place, the library and the mass media. I feel in the US, equal stress is given on informal education as the country aims to create emotionally and psychologically sound beings. Yes the education system in the US does exist outside the influence of informal education to some extent that children are taught things, like science, history topics , mathematics and other concepts which can be better taught theoretically.
