Spectroscopy Lab  (Exploring Emission & Absorption)

1. How do the UV (ultra-violet) and LED light sources compare to the incandescent spectrum? How do the filters change the spectra observed from these sources

2. What can be see when you look at an incandescent (heated filament) source?

3. What factors affect the observed color of different reflective surfaces (like your t-shirts or your notebook covers)?

4. What frequencies or bands of frequencies are affected by using your sunglasses as a filter? Are all sunglasses the same?

Answer #1

And1)- The LED light and UV light are used as the light source because of the very reason that they produce a single wavelength of light . The LED light source is very stable in terms of bandwidth as well.

UV falls in the range of the EM spectrum and have frequency of about 8 *10^14 to 3 * 10^16 cycles per second or hertz and its wavelength is 380nm whereas frequencies of light emitting diodes is between 400 to 600 tetrahertz.

The incandescent light source forms a continuous spectra in which all the visible colors are present in contrast to LED which have a fixed emission spectrum.

According to HomeworkLib guidelines, I can solve only one question. Thanks.
