3. For each of the following research questions state the null hypothesis:

a. “We just got a bid from a new vendor to sell us self-sealing stem bolts. Their price is much better than our current supplier, but I’m worried that they might be the wrong weight. We need the average weight to be 91 grams, or we can’t use them. I sent you a sample of the new bolts from their warehouse. Can we use them?”

b. “The high school guidance counselor told our daughter that she should go to Smith College instead of Jones College because Smith is just as good, but costs less. I found some test scores for Smith students and Jones students. I don’t think she should go to Smith unless they really are the same. Where should she go to college?”

c. “Remember that motivational speaker we hired last year? She wants us to recommend her to the President of XYZ Corp. I don’t want to do that unless she really did improve our employees work speed. I had HR pull the records for a random sample of our workers and looked at how many widgets they made the week before and the week after the seminar. Should I send the recommendation?”
