Article 1-The article emphasizes healthy food choices such as consuming fruits and vegetables not only contributes to physical but also mental health benefits. The view is contrasting to the fact that high-calorie foods taste great and help us in alleviating negative mood. A comprehensive assessment was done to find the relation between food choices and well being using a smartphone-based assessment. There are three findings of the study-

  • The study revealed 14 different main food for categories, especially vegetables contributed to happiness which was measured for 8 days.
  • Secondly, sweets and healthy food choices for happiness are comparable.
  • Finally, happiness concerned with dinner is comparable to snacking.

This study provides evidence that healthy food choices contribute to psychological effects and benefits.

Article 2 - The article emphasized the relationship between mental health and the diet in a cross-sectional study. Dietary nutrients such as macronutrients, vitamins, calcium, fatty acids and food groups( vegetables, dairy products, calcium, and fatty acid) and mental health among middle-aged adults. The average intake of 46 food was assessed by a validated food frequency questionnaire GHQ (General Health Questionaire) assessed participants metal health. Lifestyle factors and medical factors were also evaluated using a self-administrated questionnaire.

  • The study revealed the vegetable, proteins, calcium, carotenes, vitamin D and highly- polyunsaturated fatty acids showed an inverse relationship with GHQ score lower than 4.
  • Moreover, dairy products, saturated fatty acids showed an inverse relation with lower GHQ scores ( lower score of mental health. Monounsaturated fatty acid showed a positive relationship with the high GHQ score.
  • Consuming nutrients and healthy foods, especially dairy products can result in better mental health among adults in Japan.
