I'm not totally sure how to answer this question and would really appreciate a little walk through on how to go about figuring it out. I solved the first part of the problem that asked for the amount of Coulombs required to float up above the surface of our planet, which is 4.57C for a 70kg person, and 150N/C for a field pointing toward the center of the Earth. What I need to know is whether or not the charge would end up being protons or electrons, as well as the amount of them that I would need. Thank you!

Answer #1

It would have been great if I could see the original question.

Anyway, Here is the answer to what you are trying to ask.

the number of charges can be easily found using the following equation

Q = nq

where Q is the charge which you found and n is the number of electrons or protons, and q is the elementary charge

so,

4.57 = n * 1.6e-19

n = 4.57 / 1.6e-19

n = 2.856e19
