You wish to estimate the fecundity of robins (Turdus migratorius). So, you inspect 10 robin nests and find this many eggs in them: 2, 3,4,2,3,4,0,3,5,and 2. As you know, when you have a discrete variable with this few levels you should not treat it as a continuous variable. Determine whether the median number of eggs per nest differs from 2 with a sign test.

Answer #1

Let m denotes the median number of eggs per nest.

To test against

Here,

sample median = 3

p-value = 0.1250

Since p-value > 0.05, so we fail to reject H0 at 5% level of significance and we can conclude that the median number of eggs per nest significantly differs from 2.
