What is the difference between an empirical question and a normative question? How do

each type of question apply to problems faced in American politics?

An empirical question concerned itself with facts, information etc . It actually concerned with " what is " .for example , if a person has to investigate whether spending more money increases the chance of winning Senate election in US. Here , the analysis of data of winning candidate can be taken and analysed to reach a result. There is no opinion in this and just the facts.

While in normative question , opinion based points are co side. It is basically concerned with " what ought to be". It is opinion based and not involve fact and information.

For example , if it is to be observed whether democratic principles are harmed with excessive use of money in election in US. This anylisis will be a opinion and subjective judgement and is concerned with what ought to be , that is , elections should adhere to democratic principles.
