A moving average is a very popular indicator which is used for smoothing out volatilities and gauge the direction of the current trend. It may be a simple moving average or an exponential moving average.If the stock price is higher than the moving average it implies an upward trend. This is because the current prices are going higher than the trend depicted by the moving average.
