Answer #1

Critical thinking and decision making are very much interrelated.

Critical thinking can be described as a process where gathering, analyzing, and evaluation of information in a methodical manner is done. Essentially, this is a process for thinking clearly through several options and arriving at the best choice. The ultimate goal of decision making is to arrive at actionable conclusions, and critical thinking is the process that proves whether the conclusion is sound.

Where as decision making is a managerial process which involves consideration of lot of facts and analysis which in turn is highly interrelated with that of the critical thinking process and evaluation methods. So in this way we can say that critical thinking is way more interrelated to the decision making process.

There are many more hindrances to critical thinking than we think, the following are some of them:

  • Ego centrism
  • Self-serving bias
  • Self-interested thinking
  • Socio-centrism
  • Group Bias
  • Conformism
  • Unwarranted Assumptions
  • Stereotyping

For avoiding the deductive and inductive reason fallacies critical thinkers has to take special care in distinguishing as to what constitutes a legit and genuine reason that is without a flaw. Critical thinkers should also be aware of false dilemmas for avoiding deductive fallacies, where as critical thinkers should also consider look for false causes and composition of the arguments for any inductive fallacies and should also avoid hasty generalizations for avoiding inductive fallacies.

The following are the habits of a critical thinker :

  • More concerned about getting it right than about being right.
  • Sometimes use the critical thinking on themselves for better evaluation
  • They also consider alternatives and options
  • Critical thinkers always avoid over evaluation or over analysis of anything because it leads to destruction
  • Critical do no take something for granted or some information available to them at face value, which means they do not take it as and when available or as available.
  • Critical thinkers always avoid hurrying up their work and reaching conclusions
  • They use a different behavioral style

Obviously when one follows these habits they can be a good critical thinker, because these habits eventually make us critical thinkers. Because every critical thinker has to take care regarding the decisions that he has to take, so when a critical thinker concentrates on the above habits these habits become his main success key points and drive him towards better decision making.

I'm so sorry that i personally don't have a real life situation basing this argument, but a friend of mine had the same situation where in a communication skill development program they were asked to make teams and discuss on a topic for presentation. Because of lack of proper decision making skill and critical thinking skill their team got a lower grade for their presentation. If they have used critical thinking in choosing and drafting their topic and presentation they would got a better grade or even they would have topped the class for their presentation.
