Completely and thoroughly explain the entire Manufacturing Process in a factory that makes any type of Glass product. The manufacturing process should be complete from the very first step in the process all the way through the final step in the process that makes the finished Glass product. Do not simply describe one phase of the overall process – describe the entire process from beginning to end.
The process is of manufacturing the float glass which is an omportant vomponent of the building material. The raw material for the glass is a mix of silica sand, dolomite, soda ash, calcium oxide and feldspar.
Step 1 - Produce a molten and refined mix.The mix needs to be molten for further processing and the impurities need to be removed. The first step is to mix the ingredients and force them into a furnace at around 1500 degrees. To this, a flux material (cullet) is also added to reduce the melting point of the mixture. For producing colored glass, a tint chemical is also added
Step 2 - Ribbon formation - The molten glass from the furnace floats over the tin bath and leaves the float bath as a glass ribbon. The temperature of the tin bath is 1200 degrees, and the float cools to 600- 700 degrees as it leaves the bath
Step 3 - Defining the optical properties of glass - The cooling ribbon of glass can be treated with different materials to give it properties like reflectivity through coatings
Step 4 - annealing - annealing is the process of de- stressing of the glass. The glass is made to move through annealing medium (lehr) to eliminate the internal stresses. The process temperature is 200 degrees
Step 5 - Quality control - The manufactured glass is inspected for bubbles, unmelt particles and other irregularities caused due to internal stress in the glass. These irregularities if remain unchecked, might cause serious performance issues.
Step 6 Cutting - The glass is cut in the desired size according to the need of the customer.
