Total number of students = 12

Number of men students = 6

Number of women students = 6

a) We have to find the total number of ways of selecting a 4-member committee.

Number of ways of selecting k persons from total n persons is given by,

Hence, total number of ways of selecting 4 students from total 12 students is,

Hence, a 4-member committee can be selected from the students by 495 ways.

b) We have to find the total number of ways of selecting a 4-member committee with 2 men and 2 women.

Number of ways of selecting 2 men from 6 men and 2 women from 6 women is,

Hence, a 4-member committee with 2 men and 2 women can be selected by 225 ways.

c) We have to find total number of ways by which the class can elect a president, vice-president, treasurer, and a secretary.

Total number of selecting a president, vice-president, treasurer, and a secretary from 12 students is given by,

Hence, the class can select a president, vice-president, treasurer, and a secretary by 11880 ways.
