Biomedical waste (BMW) incinerator burns hospital and other biomedical wastes. These wastes contain chlorine in the form of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other chlorinated plastics. A survey shows approximately 1.9% by mass of BMW received at an incinerator is chlorine. Without acid gas pollution controls, nearly all chlorine is emitted as hydrogen chloride, HCl. If a particular incinerator burns 2.2 tonnes of BMW per day, estimate the mass emissions of hydrogen chloride [g/s].
