Topical medication-it is the type of medication that is applied to a particular place or in the body. Eg: skin, eye drops etc.
Forms include: creams ointments, lotions, solutions, suspensions, sprays and powders.
Routes includes: eye, nose, ears, lungs, vagina, urethra and colon.
Nystatin(mycostatin) -used for monilial vaginitis, diaper rash, candidiasis. Side effects include itching, burning and exanthematous pustulosis
Clotrimazole(canesten) -used for oral truth, diaper rash, tityriasis and jock itch. halflife is 2hours. Side effects include redness burning.
Scaboma lotion(lindane) - used for scabies and pediculosis. Adverse reactions are alopecia, contact dermatitis and pruritus.
Fucidin(Fusidic acid)-available as 2 percentage ointment, cream, gel. Used for skin infections. Side effects are rashes and irritation.
Bactroban(mupirocin) - used for impetigo and secondary skin infections. Adverse reactions are burning. Dryness, erythema and tenderness. Applied as 2percentage cream or iontment.
