Dear All,
Sub- Commercial with emotional appeal- does it persuade its purpose?
Emotional appeal relates to a person’s feelings and perceptions about a brand rather than logic or reasoning to decide on the brand. One such commercial that uses emotional appeal to attract more leads is UNICEF. The ad shows a picture of a malnutrition boy with a caption ‘He is starving and we are not’. They also suggest the viewers that it is time to share to the needy.
I would characterize it is as a highly effective commercial with emotional appeal because it impacts the viewers visually. A malnutrition boy with sad eyes attracts the attention of the viewers. It is an emotional appeal because it draws the audience towards sad feeling. The audience whoever sees the ad would pity the boy and would tend to read more. Additionally, the caption ‘He is starving and we are not’ gives reflection to the inner self for the audience. It makes one guilty while seeing the ad.
I would say that is very effective in persuading me as a listener because the ad aroused my inner thought about starvation. I have not starved by God’s grace. Hence, when I saw the ad I was very much drawn towards the boy’s plight. This made me to contribute to the cause.
Keeping the above discussion in mind, I strongly recommend that commercials with emotional appeal are a great success for the companies to achieve its purpose.
