Corey desperately needs to get to the airport and decides to take his neighbor Tanner's help. Given that Corey promises to pay Tanner $25 towards gas money, Tanner agrees to help and drives Corey to the airport. (1) Is there consideration to support the contract between Gorey and Tanner? If so, identify it for both parties. If not, explain why not. (2)What if Corey promises to pay Tanner $25 towards gas money upon arrival at the airport. If so, identify it for both parties. If not, explain why not. Does it belong to illusory promise or past consideration?
Answer;
Consideration means something in return. According to Section 2(d) it is defined as" When at the desire of the promisor, the promise or any other person has completed or abstained from doing, or ensures or abstains from doing, or promises to do or abstain from doing something, such act or abstinence or promise is called consideration for the promise."
In the present case, Corey has promised to pay $25 to Tanner as gas money which is considered as consideration in exchange which Tanner agrees to help and drive Corey to the airport.
This is the consideration to support both the contract between Corey and Tanner. Even if, Corey had promised to pay Tanner $25 towards gas money upon arrival at the airport, that would be considered as a consideration since it is a promise to pay and is covered under the definition of the consideration.
