entropy is a measure of disorder .If freedom of movement is high entropy would be high.In solid state ,particles can not move freely.hence entropy is small .where as in gaseous state entropy is maximum due to high degree of freedom.entropy increases in the following order.

solid < liquid <gas

1 melting. ice --> water = entropy increase

2 freezing .water-----> ice= entropy decrease

3. freezing water ---> ice at -10 c = entropy decrease

4. freezing= entropy decrease
