You noticed that the family doctor and the specialists that you see consult their PC and handheld computers for practically every diagnosis they make and for every prescription they give you. Does this make you trust these physicians less than physicians who do not consult their computers?

Answer #1

Technology became a part of our lifestyle. Technologies are assisting our life to make them more easier. Similarly, we see that doctors these days consult their PC or make use of handheld devices to figure out our health issues. However, this does not make doctors who don't use technology less professional.

It is well understood that technology has a great impact on our life. We tend to trust our electronic devices than our intuitions. However, doctors can work better even without electronic devices. These devices are just an easier way to diagnose. Before the era of graphics and computers, doctors used their knowledge and diagnostic analysis to treat us. Moreover for using technology or to analyse the output that machine gives, require deep knowledge and expertise in that field.

Hence, in my opinion physicians who do not consult their computers are as trustworthy as physicians who refer to their computers.

An eighty-five-year-old widow has been in a long-term care facility for six months. She was admitted with severe osteoarthritic and osteoporotic pain. Her family initiated her placement because she was overmedicating herself at home, confusing her medications, and not eating adequately. She has been a “complainer” for years, the family reports. The family and physician are reluctant to give her strong pain medicines; they don’t want her to be “doped up” like she was at home. She currently takes two...

I have to say, much like the patients that took the survey in our discussion, if I continuously had to wait excess times at my doctors office, I would work on finding a new doctor's office. Considerably long wait times are unacceptable and very disrespectful of the patient's time. Building loyalty and trust is important in any relationship. Both of these traits help develop a good relationship between patients and doctors. The average doctor's exams lasts less than 20 minutes....
