Answer: Sales forecasting is estimation of the future sales and hence is based on making certain assumption. There are a number of assumptions that are made for creating the future estimate of sales. These assumptions include the seasonal demands, current and future market conditions, the marketing activities that the company will carry out and its estimated impact and the resources that the company will employ for generating sales. All these assumptions are probabilities that may or may not happen and hence these assumptions need to be defended. Therefore while presenting the budgets to the budget committee documents like past sales data, market reports and expert opinions are cited for defending these assumptions. Actually these assumptions are made based on these documents that act as a supporting evidences. Hence they will be used for defending the sales forecasts while presenting my budget to the budget committee.
