The number of red lights you hit on your drive to work is a random variable that can take on values 0,1,2,3,4 with the following probabilities
P(0) = 0.2 P(1) = 0.15 P(2)= 0.25 P(3) = 0.30 P(4) = 0.1

What is the probability that you hit less than 2 red lights on your commute?

Answer #1

P(less than 2 red light) = P(0 red light hit) + P(1 red light hit)

= 0.2 + 0.15

= 0.35

Hence, 0.35 is the probability that you hit less than 2 red lights on your commute.

Please comment if any doubt. thank you.
