In November 2011, the National Planning Commission developed a draft national plan which led to the development of the National Development Plan 2030 with the aim of improving the economic performance of the South African Economy. Discuss FIVE (5) macroeconomic objectives that could be used in 2030 to assess/ determine how successful the plan was in improving the economic performance of the economy. Include in your discussion an explanation of the implication of not meeting the objective as well as the implication for meeting the objective

Ans) The National Development Plan 2030 was constituted by President Jacon Zuma,  it was first drafted in August 2012 by the South African government and the National Planning Commission. The Proposal aims at eradicating poverty and enriching the poor at large by 2030.

Minister Trevor Manuel stated in his speech at the launch of the NDP had stated that: “The plan is the product of thousands of inputs and perspectives of South Africans”. “It is a plan for a better future; a future in which no person lives in poverty, where no one goes hungry, where there is work for all, a nation united in the vision of our Constitution”.

Some of the main objectives of the NDP 2030 are; to ensure the elimination of poverty and to decrease the rate of inequality. To encourage skill development and strengthen democracy. To pave the way for economic growth and development, encourage exports and to make the proper use of labour capital. To concentrate on technological advancement and infrastructure, social security, and to strengthen international trade and ties. Also it aims at increasing the PCI and the GDP of the overall economy.
