Statements such as "well it's true for them.." is confused and mistaken for exceptions for following reasons - People think of the general scenarios and when someone says a different scenario, which they have not experienced it, then to validate their experiences and regard their opinion, we say statements like "its true for them". It means it has not been happening generally and widely and since it has happened now, the new experiences are validated.
