An anion is formed when electron are added to a neutral atom.

Anion is a negitively charged atom.

When an electron is added to an atom of Phosphorus,it attains a negitive charge on itself(forms Phosphorour anion).

P. + e​​​- ...........> P​​​​​​-

(Neutral atom) (electron) . (Phosphorus anion)

Therfore chemical symbol = P​​​​​​-
