Article 1:
*Synopsis on different approche to investigate and regulate the cyber crime*
1.Synopsis :
The article explains present scenario in India as well on the international level. This study has described deeply a number of common electronic crimes, identified in the specific areas of Indian banking sector. To defend the electronic crime, intrusion detection techniques should be established. Several techniques like tripwires, configuration checking tools and other detection systems. The rapid growth to global electronic crime and the complexity of its investigation requires a global presence.
In developing countries, like India, electronic crime is a serious problem because there is a lack of training on the subjects to investigate the electronic crime. The ATM fraud is not the sole problem of banks alone. It is a big threat and it requires a coordinated and cooperative action on the part of the bank, customers and the law enforcement machinery.
The ATM frauds not only cause financial loss to banks but they also undermine customers'confidence in the use of ATMs. The nature and extent of precautionary measures to be adopted will, however, depend upon the requirements of the respective banks.Credit card fraud can be devoted using a credit card or any similar payment mechanism as a fraudulent source of funds in a transaction. The reason may be to obtain goods without paying, or to obtain unauthorized funds from an account.
2.opinion :
It is almost impossible to reduce cyber crime from the cyber-space. Looking back on the many different acts passed, history can be witness that no legislation has thrived in total elimination of cyber crime from the world. The only possible step is to make people aware of their rights and duties and further making more punishable laws which is more stringent to check them. This further suggests that there is a need to convey modifications in the Information Technology Act so it can be more effective to fight cyber crimes. Caution should be employed for the pro-legislation educational institutions that the requirements of the cyber laws are not prepared so rigorous that it may delay the growth of the commerce and demonstrate to be counter-productive to many. Remember, cyber criminals are evolving as well in terms of computer knowledge per technological advancement made.
Article 2:
*Understanding the people of scene*
1.Synopsis :
Cyber crime is not just about computers. It is also about people.Understanding cyber crime is the first step in combating it. Understanding the people on the scene of the cyber crime, those who commit it,those who are injured by it, and those who work to stop it, is the first step towards understanding cyber crime.
Cyber crime cannot be easily understood as a group because they engage in a wide range of very different criminal activities for very different reasons. However, we can gain more understanding if we categorize them and analyze each group separately. Understanding the motives, characteristics, and typical behaviors of criminals in each group, along with analyzing the evidence in each particular case, can help us develop a criminal profile that will assist in identifying and capturing offenders.
Investigators of cyber crime need all the characteristics that are required of any criminal investigator, plus a few extra ones to boot. Not only must cyberspace detectives be smart, logical, objective, patient, curious, and physically fit, but also they must have some knowledge and understanding of computers, networking, technical jargon, the hacker underground, and IT security issues. That's a tall order, and talented, skilled, well-trained cyber crime investigators are in high demand. Law enforcement agencies might have to pay premium salaries to get them—especially considering the discrepancy between compensation in the public sector and the corporate world for IT professionals. However, a professional cyber investigator can be invaluable to law enforcement agencies, which can expect to see the incidence of cyber crime continue to rise at an exponential rate for the foreseeable future.
2.opinion :
Understanding the technology of cyber crime is easy compared with understanding the people who carry out the crimes. The human factor is often the most inexplicable component in an investigation.
Article 3:
*Mexican Bank Heist on January 2018*
1.Synopsis :
On January 2018 Mexican Bank got robbed by a group of hackers. The hackers tried to steal 110 million dollar from the bank but failed in their attempt. But after a month or so their second attempt was successful and stole about 15 -20 million dollar.
Their were some security holes in the banking systems so the hackers could gain access to the internal server fro the public internet. The hackers would exploit flaws in how SPEI validated sender accounts to initiate a money transfer from a non existant source like “Joe Smith, Account Number: 12345678.” They would then direct the phantom funds to a real, but pseudonymous account under their control and send a so-called cash mule to withdraw the money before the bank realized what had happened. Each malicious transaction was relatively small, in the range of tens or hundreds of thousands of pesos. "SPEI sends and receives millions and millions of pesos daily, this would have been a very little percentage of that operation," Loza says
.SPEI itself and the infrastructure surrounding the app were apparently ripe for attack. Banxico, which could not be reached by WIRED for comment, said in a forensic analysis report released at the end of August that the attacks weren't a direct assault on Banxico's central systems, but were instead targeted at overlooked or weak interconnections in the larger Mexican financial system. The attackers' approach required "a deep knowledge of the technological infrastructure and the processes of the victim institutions as well as access to them," Banxico wrote. "The attack was not intended to render SPEI inoperable or penetrate the defenses of the Central Bank."
2.Opinion :
"Mexican people need to start to work together. All the institutions need to cooperate more," Loza says. "The main problem on cyber security is that we don’t share knowledge and information or talk about attacks enough. People don't want to make details about incidents public."
