If you have ever driven a sports car and a minivan you know that they don't accelerate the same. What force would it take to accelerate a 609.68 kg sports car from 0 to 60 mph in 4.75 seconds?
Using 1st kinematic equation:
V = U + a*t
a = acceleration of sports car = (V - U)/t
U = initial speed = 0 m/sec
V = final speed = 60 mph = 60 miles/hr = (60 miles/hr)*(1609.34 m/1 miles)*(1 hr/3600 sec) = 26.82 m/sec
t = time taken = 4.75 sec
So,
a = (26.82 - 0)/4.75
a = 5.65 m/sec^2
Now from Newton's 2nd law:
Fnet = m*a
m = mass of sports car = 609.68 kg
Fnet = net force required to accelerate = 609.68*5.65
Fnet = 3444.7 N

The engine in an imaginary sports car can provide constant power to the wheels over a range of speeds from 0 to 70 miles per hour (mph). At full power, the car can accelerate from zero to 28.0 mph in time 1.20 s. At full power, how long would it take for the car to accelerate from 0 to 56.0 mph ? Neglect friction and air resistance.

A car with a power rating of 75 hp can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 10 seconds. How long would it take a car of power rating of 240 hp to accelerate by the same amount? Which car performs more work?

Consider a Porsche 911 sports car with a mass of 1900 kg. The air drag force at highway speeds can be approximately calculated as: F_drag = 1/2 C p Av^2 where p = 1.2 kg/m^3 is the density of air, A is the front area of the car, C is the drag coefficient and v is the velocity. For the Porsche 911, we can take A - 2.3 m^2 and C = 0.28. What is the power necessary to overcome...
Suppose a poll of adults asked, "Have you ever driven a car when you probably had too much alcohol to drive safely?" of the 300 men who answered, 186 (62%) said yes and 111 (37%) said no. The remaining three weren't sure. Of the 300 women, 84 (28%) said yes while 213 (71%) said no, and the remaining three weren't sure. (You may need to use a calculator. Round your answers to two decimal places.) (a) Ignoring those who said...

In the figure, a car is driven at constant speed over a circular hill and then into a circular valley with the same radius. At the top of the hill, the normal force on the driver from the car seat is 0. The driver's mass is 56.0 kg. What is the magnitude of the normal force on the driver from the seat when the car passes through the bottom of the valley? Raclius Raclius Units Number
