Vodafone has one of the world’s largest mobile communications networks, with 83,900 employees
serving over 370 million customers across more than 30 countries. With 2,200 retail stores and a
further 10,300 branded franchises throughout the world. Vodafone products include messaging
services for businesses and consumers, smart phones, mobile handsets and tablets. Its current
strategy is aimed at increasing the ‘average revenue per user’ through offering more and more
added value mobile services.
Vodafone Mauritius Ltd has been set up since about one year and the company has a diverse
workforce comprising both foreigners as well as Mauritians of both younger and older age group
and has adopted an aggressive strategy to increase its market share locally.
You have been appointed as a communication manager at Vodafone Mauritius Ltd and your tasks
comprise:
- Managing and improving the communication process with both internal and external
key stakeholders of the company whilst coordinating the operation planning;
- Ensuring that everyone receive information, understand and synthesize it properly;
- Transmit knowledge, skills and values at the same time motivate others to ensure that
there is employee retention, staff performance, and ultimately business profits.
QUESTION
In relation to the case study, explain critically how Vodafone can implement
an effective communication strategy leading to the attainment of the
organizational mission and vision.

First and foremost as a Communication Manager at Vodafone , I would set-up a Mini-culture within the organization in order to ensure effective Cross- cultural communication , in order to attain an ideal working condition for all.

second task would be to incorporate a session of face to face interaction, this gives a personal connection to all the employees so as to establish a feeling of togetherness , this activity would be a basic non work related one , where any employee could talk as such as he would want.

As a manager of communication it is important for me to do complete study of Mauritius culture , in order to understand in depth and not to make any gestures which would hurt the sentiments of the home crowd working at the company. This would allow me to understand people as individuals with cultural backgrounds then just caricatures.
