Why is the preferred path to the highest utility one in which both items are economic “goods”?
An economic good refers to a good or service which has a utility (benefit) to society. Also, these goods are scarce, and can be had only on payment and therefore have an opportunity cost. The utility will be the highest when the marginal utility of the last unit purchased is equal to the good's price; thus need to be computed in monetary terms. The payment has to be made for the economic goods and not free goods thus the path preferred to the highest utility one is when both items are economic “goods”
