SCHIZOPHRENIA

• It is considered to be a psychotic disorder.
• It is characterized by hallucinations, delusions, distorted and disorganized behavior and disturbances in thinking.
• People diagnosed with schizophrenia hear/see things which are odd and not true in nature.
• People suffering from schizophrenia often have distorted speech. Due to which they speak in a disorganized way which is hard for others to understand.
• Schizophrenia is primarily considered to be a brain disorder, therefore, genetics, lower levels of brain activity in the frontal lobe, excessive activity of dopamine play an important role.

POSITIVE SYMPTOMS

• The excessive activity of dopamine normally found in the brain is related to the positive symptoms of schizophrenia.
• The positive symptoms include experiences which occur in addition to normal experiences, for example, disorganized thought processes/behavior.
• Hallucination which involves seeing, tasting, smelling, hearing something which is nor real and delusions which are generally the false beliefs or a misinterpretation of actual information/experience, fall under the positive symptoms of Schizophrenia.

NEGATIVE SYMPTOMS

• People suffering from Schizophrenia often experience decrease or noticeable fall in the normal functioning, for example, loss of interest and pleasure, loss of motivation to carry out any normal activity, loss of social life, etc.
• The negative symptoms of schizophrenia also include poverty of speech and thought, blunting of effect, inattention to cognitive input, etc.
• The negative symptoms basically refer to the feelings or through which are felt by the normal people but these feelings and thoughts are absent in individuals suffering from any mental disorder.

SCHIZOPHRENIA WITH CATATONIA

• A set of symptoms or a behavioral syndrome that can have serious effects and consequences if not treated on time are referred to as catatonics.
• This psychiatric condition has been historically associated/linked with schizophrenia and develop in people suffering from the same.
• In this neurological and psychological condition, two sets of behaviors are displayed, namely, stupor or motor rigidity, and excitement.
• Due to this condition, people generally are unable to speak or communicate properly. The catatonia can last from hours to even 10 days. And it differs from individual to individual.
