Answer #1

Gravitational acceleration = g = 9.81 m/s2

Mass of the skydiver = m = 75 kg

Force with which the parachute pulls on the person = F

Acceleration of the skydiver after the parachute opens = a = 2.4 m/s2 downwards

From the free body diagram,

ma = mg - F

(75)(2.4) = (75)(9.81) - F

F = 555.75 N

Magnitude of the force with which the parachute pulls on the person = 555.75 N

    003 10.0 points A man jumps from an airplane and does not open his parachute immediately. As he falls, two forces act on him: the force mg due to gravity and the force na of air resistance. Now he opens his parachute and begins to fall at constant velocity What forces act upon him now? 1. Since he is falling at constant velocity the force of air resistance no longer acts on him. 2. The same two forces act on...

    Note that the answer is not: - 0 m/s^2 - 7.848 m/s^2 A skydiver jumps off of an airplane. The plane flies at an altitude of 4 km, and at a speed of 100 km/hr. The skydiver "jumps" by simply letting go of the plane and falling out. Gravity is the only thing affecting their motion until they open their parachute at a height of 2.5 km. After opening their parachute, they experience constant acceleration until they land perfectly, with...
