Ethylene, C2H4 is a reactive gaseous hydrocarbon. Two students were set loose in a lab and tried to react ethylene with hydrogen gas and hydrochloric acid. Due to the humidity that day there was also water in the reaction. When the students analyzed their products, they found three products came from the reaction. They were able to make ethane (C2H6), 1-chloro-ethane (C2H5Cl)and ethyl alcohol (C2H5OH). In these products, one is a liquid at room temperature and two are gases. Use your knowledge of intermolecular forces

to answer the following questions.

a. Which of these three products would be the liquid?

b. If you were to slowly cool the remaining two gases, which would condense first?
