Primary problems associated with its use are as following -

1. It is a non renewable source of energy and thus its sources are limited and dependency on it may make us more to suffer during its scarcity in future.

2. It causes more environment pollution

3. burning of petroleum releases hazardous substances since it is a mixture of hydrocarbons and sulfur etc, when we burn in, these compounds are released in the air to cause trouble.

4. Transportation of oil causes oil spills which are the main cause for pollution of the oceans

5. Oil fields are the most common targets of terrorists since its extraction is easy.

Besides this, there are many other problems associated with oil and hence alternative for this is that we should increase the production of non renewable forms of energy according the conditions of a region. Example - the tropical areas receive more sunlight and thus their most of the production must come from solar energy while those areas where winds blow almost whole year, wind energy should be given importance.
