Whirlpool recently revamped their HR strategy into a People Excellence Strategy, establishing an operating system based on specific analytics they had gathered. In reviewing their diversity scorecard, it became apparent that Whirlpool had a “leaky bucket” problem. While they had made strides in the attraction and hiring of diverse talent, they were losing that talent at the same, if not a faster, rate. Clearly something needed to be done to engage and retain that talent.

Recommend ways for Whirlpool to retain and engage employees. Discuss each recommendation in detail.

Recommendations to Whirlpool for retention & engagement of employees are -

• Implement a learning management system
  • This will help in the evaluation of learning needs & overall development of the employees. This will also help them to cater to the individual employee learning needs & help in the development of engagement.
• Inclusion of employees
  • Involving employees in planning, assessing opportunities and coming up with ideas for developing business strategy & make them feel that they are playing a key role in helping the business achieve its objectives.
• Transparency
  • This should include disclosing of future plans, financial statements, profits or losses, achievements etc.
• Promotion & Performance Appraisal
  • Providing opportunities for promotion & rewarding performance.
• Offering competitive compensation or wages
  • This helps in creating value for employees' work & time.
• Encourage employees to give & receive feedback
  • Constructive criticism & appreciation help in development & motivation of employees
• Leave Policy
  • Create a fair, attractive & awarding paid leave policy.
