I need to know how to set up this question on paper and the ti-84 functions to use:
A researcher takes a sample temp. in fahrenheit of 17 days from NYC 18 days from Phoenix. test the claim that the standard deviation in temps. in NYC is different from the S.D. of temps. in Phoenix. Use a significance level of 0.05. assume the populations are approximately normally distributed. you obtain the following two samples of date. Use the p-value method.
NYC Phoenix
98 82.4 106.8 94.2
95.5 64.3 98.6 72
92.2 65.5 91.5 86.8
102 87.7 82 120.1
85.4 104 97.7 114.4
80 74.3 64.9 93.7
85.4 59.5 82 89.7
75.4 82.8 72 104.7
79.5 115.2 76.6
To do so, you click the “STAT” button and then select the “Edit...” option
Once all of the numerical values have been entered into the list, press the “STAT” button and tab over to the third tab titled, “TESTS.”
Go all the way to the bottom of this page to the entry titled, “2-sampleFTest“ and select this by pushing the enter button
input data
calculate
it will give p-value
if p-value < 0.05 the we reject the null hypothesis then we conclude that there is evidence that standard deviation in temps. in NYC is different from the S.D. of temps. in Phoenix.
otherwise if p-value > 0.05
we fail to reject the null hypothesis
there is not enough evidence
