you are asked to tittate a sample of sulfuric acid of unknown concentration against a standardized solution if sodium hydroxide. you stsrt with 23.00 mL of sulfuric acid in a reaction flask, and 25.67 mL of 1.760 M sodium hydroxide are required to reach the equivalent point, what is the molarity (M) of the sulfuric acid solution?

Answer #1

The reaction is

H2SO4 + 2 NaOH ----------------> Na2SO4 + 2H2o

The relation of molarities at equivalence is

V1M1/n1 = V2M2/n2 where N1 and N2 are the stoichiometric coefficients of H2So4 and NaOH respectively.

23.00mL x M /1 = 25.67mL x 1.760M/2

Thus Molarity of H2SO4 ,M1 = 0.982 M

Alternatively

meq of acid = meq of base

2x23.00mL x Molarity = 1 x 25.67 mL x 1.760 M

[as H2SO4 is dibasic and NaOH is monoacidic]
