There has been discussion about people moving from Earth to Mars in the future. An organization called MarsOne (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. is recruiting investors and volunteers for the first manned mission there. The gravity on Mars is 62% lower than the gravity on Earth, meaning that someone weighing 100 kg on Earth would weigh 38 kg on Mars (Williams, 2014).
Imagine that you were able to move to Mars. For this assignment, write a brief essay to discuss some of the activities you engage in every day that would be dramatically different in lower gravity.
If gravity is less, our walking speed will increase. Golf will also become more interesting as the ball will get more air time. The frictional force will decrease overall as the frictional force is proportional to gravity. So, overall, actions like skating, pulling, etc will become much easier. But on the down side, activities like driving, where static friction is important will get tough. It will tend to skid rather than roll. Everyday activities like drinking water, eating food, will become a bit tough.
I would personally prefer a workplace with gravity where I can write easily, my objects remain stable on the ground and are organized. Physical activities like walking will be much faster. Exercise will not remain that effective as many exercises like weight lifting, push ups will not remain that effective.

Mars is a long way away—33.9 million miles to be exact—from Earth. But, that hasn’t stopped NASA from gaining approval in the bipartisan NASA Authorization Act of 2010 to send humans to Mars in the 2030s. While there are amazing technological and physical challenges associated with such an audacious goal, there are also serious organizational behavior challenges in terms of managing emotions and stress during the six- to nine-month-long journey there and back. Astronaut Scott Kelly, who spent one year...
we've learned about the asteroid impact that occurred at the end of the Cretaceous period of Earth history, which led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. It created a crater called the Chicxulub crater, and temporarily altered the Earth's atmosphere, climate, and oceans so much that it caused a mass extinction. (You might also find it helpful to look at this geologic time scale because it shows when the Cretaceous, Tertiary, Permian, and Triassic portions of the geologic time scale...
CASE 20 Enron: Not Accounting for the Future* INTRODUCTION Once upon a time, there was a gleaming office tower in Houston, Texas. In front of that gleaming tower was a giant "E" slowly revolving, flashing in the hot Texas sun. But in 2001, the Enron Corporation, which once ranked among the top Fortune 500 companies, would collapse under a mountain of debt that had been concealed through a complex scheme of off-balance-sheet partnerships. Forced to declare bankruptcy, the energy firm...
