Some of the difficulties associated with determining the value of information are the issues of distinguishing information from data. There are times when the data of the same nature and size are valuable and at some other time it is not. Another difficulty arises from the separation of communication from the information.

Safeguarding information leads to a lot of difficulties because digital data requires a proper infrastructure to store information so that it cannot be hacked and accessed by any unauthorized person.

The examples of the factors that affect the cost of control of the IG program include cost, efficiency, and security along with the aspects of profitability, agility, and competitiveness.

The steps that can be implemented to reduce the cost to the organization include realistic time and costs estimates after and before the implementation of the program is critical. Furthermore, a strong information governance program can be used to target business objectives.
