The ethical theory pf Peter Singer reflects deep thinking related various social problems with their origin, reasons, consequence and so on.
Equality: To discuss the equality, he mentions various fields where discrimination lies. Such discrimination causes inequality and such inequality is found in respect of sex, race, religion, skill and so on. The existence of inequality means the violation of morality. The discrimination in the same ethnic group causes bar in prosperity and development of a community. Here he mentions the discrimination between the African Americans and the Americans of the European descendants. He also mentions the discrimination between male and female and totally negates the relevance of maintaining such discrimination.
Again there is inequality in the ‘hierarchy of intelligence’. He says that the principle of equality should be like a pair of scales what maintains equality. There should be such scale in the society and norms of the country.
But it appears that there are many backward communities and they are given priority in some cases. There is reservation system. Some think that it is the violation of equality. Therefore Singer says that there are some ethics to judge such matters. Such principle of reservation is also a part of equality as it helps to bring a balance in the society.
Male-female difference: In the society male-female difference is a major problem. The causes as presibed by Singer are males are more aggressive in nature and therefore female sometimes have to work in fear. Even from the young age such difference appears. Therefore men are punished more for such aggressive nature. Such aggression is the result of biological formation and hormones. In a civilized society such aggression is not expected and there should be equal respect and importance to each other.
Animal equality: There is a question whether animals should have right. We take animal flesh as food. Some communities like Eskimos live by animal flesh. But it is also true that we can easly live without animal flesh. Medical report says that animal flesh is not essential for human beings. Similarly, experiment on the animals also violates the right of the animals. It is ethically wrong. Singer frankly says that we should be careful in the preservation of the animal rights. Besides, animalsd eat each other. Naturally there is a system. Human beings violate the system.
Wrong with killing: According to Peter Singer it is absolutely wrong in killing human beings. Everybody has the right of living. Killing other means the violation of the rules prescribed in the doctrines. There is special value of life and one should not break the value. It is also seen that every states obey this value of human beings. Even there are many international organizations where human value is especially cared.
Here a question rises what type of killing should be prohibited as there is killing of embryo. Singer says that abortion is ethically wrong. The birth of a baby is an object of pleasure both to mother and father. However, the killing is certain unavoidable circumstances are ethically right. But to preserve the sanctity of the human beings, killing should be strictly prohibited.
But in case of 'Euthanasia' there may be some exception. It means 'a gentle and easy death'. There are certain case where the pain is incurable and there is no alternative way of relief except death. In such case the concerned persons’ permission is taken and the person is killed with the help of medical system.
Rich and poor: There are many reasons behind poverty. It is a main cause of inequality. It hampers education and smooth development. Here the Singer discusses the right of property. He says that right of property is ethically right as it is earned by labor and skill. There are some system of over taxation on the rich people what is ethically wrong.
But in reality the authority imposes various types of tax to bring a balance in the society. The poverty-stricken people suffer from lack of nutrition, lack of education and medical facilities. Government need to compensate them and therefore tax is imposed there. But it is true that the rich people do not have any obligation to pay tax. It is done to aid the poor people.
